Daura: Malam Mamman Daura, the most senior member of the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s family, has expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their support and solidarity during the period of mourning. In a statement by Malam Garba Shehu, Daura noted that the participation of Nigerians from all walks of life provided solace during this difficult time.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Daura highlighted the comforting support received from President Bola Tinubu and his wife, Sen. Remi Tinubu. He acknowledged the efforts of Vice President Kashim Shettima, who traveled to the United Kingdom and Daura to be with the family during their time of loss. Daura also appreciated the President’s gestures such as declaring a public holiday and renaming the University of Maiduguri in honor of Buhari.
Daura extended his gratitude to global leaders, including the King of England, King Charles III, the UN Secretary-General, the Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, the Chairman of the African Union, and the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, as well as Nigeria’s former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, for their condolences and support.
Though the passing of Buhari is an irreplaceable loss, Daura reflected on the positive reactions from across the world as a comforting balm to the family. He thanked Vice President Kashim Shettima, his wife, state governors, and numerous other dignitaries and leaders who visited the family both in the UK and Daura.
Daura also expressed appreciation to former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar, Architect Namadi Sambo, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, as well as Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Honorable Tajuddeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and other national and state assembly members for their support.
He conveyed thanks to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, his predecessor Boss Mustapha, Chief of Staff Honorable Femi Gbajabiamila, and former Chief of Staff Professor Ibrahim Gambari, along with cabinet members from both administrations for their comforting words and actions during this period.
The family was also touched by the gestures of traditional leaders, notably the Sultan of Sokoto, the Shehu of Borno, the Emir of Gwandu, and the host emirs of Katsina and Daura, among others, who came or sent representatives to offer condolences.
Business leaders like Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Abdul Samad Isyaka Rabi’u, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, Kola Adesina, and Nasiru Danu were thanked for visiting Daura to show their support.
Daura concluded by expressing gratitude to the citizens of Nigeria and representatives from other nations for their prayers and messages of condolence. He requested continued prayers for the family as they navigate this period of mourning, extending blessings to all who stood by them.
