Abuja: Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Bashar, Emir of Gwandu, on his Supreme Court victory. This announcement was made in a statement by Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, and shared with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Bashar emerged victorious in a legal battle that spanned 23 years against the deposed Emir of Gwandu, retired Major Haruna Jokolo. The Supreme Court delivered a split decision on Monday, concluding that the deposed Emir did not follow due legal process in initiating the suit. The court emphasized the necessity of serving a pre-action notice to the Governor of Kebbi State, which the deposed Emir failed to do before filing the lawsuit.
Buhari expressed his admiration for his friend and military course mate, Iliyasu, on his victory. In a telephone call from London, Buhari conveyed his good wishes to the Emir, urging him to build on his successes and achievements despite the lengthy litigation. He highlighted the Emir’s commitment to the betterment of his people and the nation, even during challenging times. Buhari concluded his message by thanking Allah for the victory and praying for the Emir’s long life and good health.
