Assembly Member worried over state of Kweikuma STMA Basic School

Mr Bukari Kyere, the Assembly Member for Kweikuma Electoral Area, in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, has expressed worry over the poor state of the Kweikuma STMA Basic School in the community.In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he said the school had been in a bad state for some time now, which affected the teaching and learning process and called for urgent attention to resolve the situation.According to him, the school usually got flooded when it rained due to a poor drainage system in front of it.'When it rains at dawn through to the morning, teachers and students have no other choice than to stay home; likewise, when it rains during the day, they all have to run to the top of the building for security purposes because of the flood,' Mr Kyere said.He mentioned that he had called for several engagements with the school's management body and community opinion leaders to find lasting solutions to the issue but to no avail.He said: 'The school used to have a very good environment but some individuals in the community have encroached some of the school's land and put up structures resulting in the current state of the school.'Mr Kyere continued: 'Teaching and learning has become a problem with parents so most of them have been redrawing their wards from the school leaving it virtually empty.'The Assembly Member appealed to the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) to come to their aid and secure the rest of the school's land for future development.He also called on the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi Constituency, Mr Andrew Egyapa Mercer, to come to the aid of the school and help in the facelift of the school to meet the educational needs of the community.Mr Mohammed Nurudeen Umar, an old student, expressed the same sentiment about the state of the school.He entreated the community members to come together and devise appropriate strategies to address the flooding issue for the last timeSource: Ghana News Agency
