AI-Driven Diagnostic Set to Transform African Healthcare

Uniccon: The Uniccon Group of Companies says Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven diagnostics will transform the African healthcare. The Chairman of Uniccon Group and Founder, MySmartMedic, Prof. Chuks Ekwueme, said this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja. Ekwueme spoke ahead of the Stakeholders’ Roundtable on Telemedicine and Digital Health Access in Africa to be organised by the MySmartMedic, scheduled to hold in Abuja on Nov. 25.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the programme tagged, ‘Telemedicine and Digital Health Access in Africa’, will bring together government leaders, regulators, healthcare executives, innovators, and development partners. The Uniccon group chairman said that the stakeholders would collectively reimagine the future of health service delivery in Africa.

He said that the rapid evolution of digital technology had presented Africa with an unprecedented opportunity to transform its healthcare systems, bridge long-standing gaps and deliver quality medical services to every community. According to him, Africa stands at a turning point where innovation must translate into impact. ‘For too long, millions of Africans have been excluded from timely and quality medical care due to distance, cost or infrastructure limitations.’

Ekwueme emphasized that telemedicine offers a lifeline that can democratize access, strengthen national health systems, and save lives. ‘MySmartMedic is committed to championing this shift by bringing together the brightest minds with the power to influence policy, drive investment and accelerate adoption,’ he said.

Ekwueme described MySmartMedic as a platform built to serve as a reliable, accessible, and intelligent digital health companion for individuals, families, and institutions across Africa. He stated that the platform integrated advanced AI capable of enhancing medical triage, early diagnosis support, personalized care recommendations, and seamless referral pathways.

He further elaborated that MySmartMedic, a next-generation telemedicine platform developed by Uniccon Group, aims to improve access to quality healthcare across Africa. ‘With AI-powered features, virtual consultations, remote monitoring, and secure digital health records, MySmartMedic will provide an innovative, holistic solution for individuals, healthcare providers, and institutions.’

Ekwueme stressed that AI integration is not merely an added feature but a defining leap forward for the African health ecosystem. ‘MySmartMedic is engineered with AI-driven diagnostic assistance that ensures patients get faster, more accurate guidance, especially in emergency and rural settings where access to specialists is limited,’ he said.

He concluded by stating that the goal was about ensuring that quality healthcare is not just available, but consistently accessible, affordable, and responsive. According to him, MySmartMedic will promote regulatory frameworks that support safe, scalable telemedicine adoption and drive digital health inclusion for underserved populations across Africa.

He noted that it will accelerate the integration of AI into mainstream health practice for improved diagnostics and clinical decision support, and strengthen collaboration between policymakers, investors, and healthcare leaders. ‘It will lay the foundation for a continent-wide ecosystem where technology and medical expertise work hand in hand to reduce preventable deaths and enhance quality of life,’ he said.
