Lagos: Adequate facilities are crucial for effective teaching in universities, emphasized Prof. Okuneye during a recent lecture. He highlighted that these facilities play a critical role in supporting various segments of university leadership, including management, faculty, departments, services, directorate, staff, and student unions.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Olugbenga Akindoju, stated in his welcome address that the lecture inaugurated a new tradition within the faculty. This platform aims to inspire intellectual and academic excellence. He noted that the theme of the lecture is timely and strategic, emphasizing the pivotal role of teacher education in national development. Akindoju stressed that the quality of teachers directly impacts the nation’s progress and highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the faculty due to inadequate facilities.
Prof. Akindoju urged stakeholders, alumni, and friends of the faculty to support the university through resources, infrastructure, and collaboration to provide a conducive environment for staff and students. He emphasized that the university’s journey towards excellence requires collective effort and partnership.
In her opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, represented by Deputy VC Academics, Prof. Taiwo Afisi, expressed that the initiative marks a new tradition of intellectual engagement and knowledge sharing. She remarked that the true measure of a university’s greatness lies in its academic culture and rigorous scholarship rather than infrastructure alone. The lecture series by the Faculty of Education is a commendable effort to uphold LASU’s mission to become the leading university in West Africa.
The event was attended by notable figures including the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University of Education, Prof. Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, and Dr. Oluwasegun Musa, along with traditional ruler Oba Nojeemdeen Oduala I of Akesan kingdom.
