ABU Emerges Top 10 in International Energy Competition

Zaria: Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria has emerged part of the top 10 competitors at the prestigious ‘Power the Community 2025’ International Design Competition. The Director, Public Affairs Directorate of the university, Malam Auwalu Umar, disclosed this in Zaria on Monday.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Umar highlighted the university’s commitment to harnessing cutting-edge solutions for community development and environmental sustainability. The competition, organized by Energy Mentors, is an annual event that provides students a platform to showcase creativity in designing energy infrastructure for selected communities. Energy Mentors is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering innovation in the energy field and is based in Sugar Land City, Fort Bend County, Texas, USA.

Umar explained that the competition is open to students from around the world, including undergraduate, graduate, and high school students, allowing them to apply their knowledge to solve real-world challenges. The competition featured a prize pool of 31,000 dollars, with a grand prize of 10,000 dollars. Two student teams from ABU were among the top 10 entries from 18 countries.

Prof. Adamu Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor of ABU, commended the students for their performances and emphasized ABU’s capability to address global issues. He remarked that if the event were national, ABU would have secured the first position. Prof. Ahmed pledged the university’s support for further development and potential implementation of their designs in nearby communities, with possibilities for federal adaptation.

The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the university’s commitment to excellence and expressed the management’s dedication to ensuring future successes in similar competitions.
