Asaba: Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has earmarked 42 road projects for inauguration in celebration of his administration’s second anniversary. The governor disclosed this during his State of the State address at the State House of Assembly in Asaba on Wednesday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Oborevwori highlighted completed projects, including Torugbene Road (Section A) in Burutu LGA, and remedial works on the approach to the Bridge at Bedesegha along Ohoro-Bomadi Road in Bomadi LGA. Other projects include the construction of a drainage channel in Ika North East LGA, a network of roads in Abavo, Ika South LGA, and flood control measures around Madonna College Road in Asaba, Oshimili South LGA.
The governor also mentioned the rehabilitation of the Asaba-Ugbolu Road, the construction of the final phase of Marine Road in Patani LGA, and the ongoing construction of 431 road projects spanning a cumulative length of 2,595.56 kilometres, with drains covering 822.47 kilometres. He added that five out of 17 bridges under construction have been completed.
Oborevwori stated that these projects are being undertaken by agencies like the state Ministry of Works, Delta State Capital Development Agency, and Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC). He emphasized that modern infrastructure development generates employment and boosts demand for services in the informal sector.
The governor unveiled several projects, including the dualisation of the Ughelli-Asaba Road, the Isheagu/Ewulu Road, and the rehabilitation of Mariere Street in Boji-Boji Agbor. He also mentioned flagship projects such as flyovers and slipways in Warri and Effurun, expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2026.
Oborevwori delivered the first-ever State of the State Address in Delta’s history, emphasizing the ‘MORE agenda’ driven by servant-leadership, transparency, accountability, innovation, and excellence. He highlighted the administration’s roadmap for growing the economy, maintaining fiscal responsibility, and supporting social enterprises.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the State House of Assembly passed a vote of confidence on the governor for his prudent management of state resources. The House commended his visionary leadership, financial stewardship, and commitment to human capital development. The motion was moved by Mr Emeka Nwaobi and seconded by Ferguson Onwo, receiving unanimous support.
Speaker Mr Dennis Guwor praised the governor for his transformational leadership and strategic financial management, thanking him for the commendable work being done for the state’s development.
