Accra: The High-Level Consultative Conference on Regional Cooperation and Security concluded on 30th January 2026 with a meeting at the level of Heads of State and Government. The President of the Republic of Ghana and host expressed the significance of the conference, emphasizing dialogue, solidarity, and commitment to regional citizens. He highlighted the challenges posed by heightened insecurity and the need for collective action, preventive diplomacy, and intelligence-sharing.According to African Press Organization, the President of Liberia, Joseph Boakai, pointed to the recent attack in Niger as a reminder of the region's realities, advocating for conflict prevention and strengthening regional cooperation. The President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, stressed the need for a coordinated regional approach, combining military action with good governance and economic opportunities.Her Excellency Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu of Nigeria and the Defence Minister of Mauritania echoed the importance of collecti ve approaches to the region's security issues. Representatives from Togo and the African Union also emphasized the need for regional cooperation and adherence to African peace and governance frameworks.The conference's communique, delivered by Ghana's Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, outlined outcomes including regular regional meetings, mechanisms to combat insecurity, and a focus on human security. The summit concluded with a renewed commitment to regional solidarity and security cooperation.
