National Youth Job Fair: Harnessing Skills, Tackling Unemployment

Abuja: The National Youth Job Fair 2.0 promises to promote skills, harness talents and insights to reduce unemployment in the country. Mrs. Habibah Abdullahi, one of the organisers, said this while urging National Youth Service Corps members, skills-driven, and unemployed youths to hone skills, seek mentorship, and resources through the fair.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Abdullahi emphasized that the Youth Job Fair would be an avenue to create opportunities in jobs and ideas, encouraging participants to perfect these into something substantial. She highlighted that no idea is too small to be discarded, whether it involves bricklaying, tailoring, or shoemaking. The fair is not limited to degree holders, as it aims to provide an enabling environment for skill realization and networking among people from various backgrounds and cultures.

Abdullahi stated that the event, which will be held at the Nigerian National Merit Award Centre (Merit House) Maitama, Abuja, will include the National Directorate of Employment, mentors, and financiers. Organized by Kfrativity Foundation and Great Minds Children and Youth Foundation, the fair seeks to support government efforts in reducing unemployment. This initiative follows the maiden edition, National Youth Job Fair 1.0, which took place in 2024.

She encouraged captains of industry, employers, and well-meaning Nigerians to identify and nurture talents from the youth, offering notable employment opportunities to deserving individuals. Additionally, Abdullahi noted that business documentation and registration would benefit those seeking financial assistance to grow their skills.

A database will be created at the end of the fair to monitor the progress of skill growth and the relationship between job seekers and employers. Abdullahi urged youths to exhibit exemplary conduct and a strong work ethic to advance the fair’s objectives and pave the way for more youths to secure gainful employment.
