The Gaming Commission of Ghana as part of its September Gaming Awareness Month has donated 500 learning materials to two Ada island schools. They are the Pediatorkope D/A Basic School and Tuanikope D/A Basic School. The materials, comprising books and stationery, are to support teaching and learning in the two schools, which serve the Big Ada island communities in the Ada East District. The Gaming Commission had declared September 'Responsible Gaming Awareness Month' to raise awareness on regulated betting to ensure a gaming environment free of unlawful activities.Madam Beatrice Baiden, Head of Corporate Affairs at the Gaming Commission, said the donation was part of the Commission's give back to society in its awareness outreach.Mr Frank Teye Torgbenu, Big Ada Island Education Circuit Supervisor, said the learning materials would help support students whose parents could not afford them.He said the schools also needed accommodation for their teachers who lived on the mainland.Mr Torgbenu appealed for support to purchase a canoe and outboard motor for the schools to convey teachers and students between the Big Ada mainland and the island communities. There are eleven communities on the Big Ada Island, with five schools and a clinic serving the population. The two schools have no access to electricity and potable water. Also, the toilet facility at Pediatorkope D/A Basic School, which is in a deplorable state, has been taken over by residents of the community.Source: Ghana News Agency
