Agara Emerges as 4th Vice-President of African Karate Federation

Abuja: Silas Agara, the President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN), has been elected as the 4th Vice President of the Union of African Karate Federations (UFAK). Agara’s election took place on Wednesday night during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of UFAK, amidst the ongoing 2025 African Karate Championship at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Agara, who also serves as the Vice-President of Region 2 (West Africa), secured 20 votes, defeating his closest competitor, Freddy Kombo from Congo DRC, who received 14 votes. The AGM also saw Souleymane Gaye of Senegal elected as the new President of UFAK with 23 votes, surpassing Mohammed Mouktabil of Morocco, who obtained 11 votes.

In addition to Agara’s victory, Bechir Cherif of Tunisia was elected unopposed as the 1st Vice-President. Similarly, Sonny Pillar from South Africa, who also ran unopposed, became the 3rd Vice-President. Bertin Dongmo from Cameroon was elected unopposed as the General Secretary, in an AGM attended by the World President of the Karate Federation, Antonio Espinos.

The ongoing African Karate Championship, which began on July 21, has participation from thirty-one countries alongside host nation Nigeria. This event continues to showcase the vibrant and competitive spirit of African karate on an international stage.
