Abuja: Vice-President Kashim Shettima inaugurated a National Integrated Power Project at Borno State University, Maiduguri. The project, executed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Ltd. (NDPHC), aims to improve electricity supply to the university and surrounding communities.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the power project includes a 1X7.5MVA, 33/11KV injection substation, 3km of 33KV line, 2.5km of 11KV line, 2.5km of LT line, and 3 nos. 500KVA distribution transformers. Implemented under the Distribution Intervention Projects, it aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to boost infrastructure development and economic activities nationwide.
Vice-President Shettima emphasized the project’s positive impact on the lives of university members and local residents, stating, ‘power is life, life is power.’ Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, highlighted the resolution of low voltage issues and improvements in power quality for Maiduguri and its surroundings, including the Borno State University and the new Teaching Hospital.
Ms. Jennifer Adighije, Managing Director of NDPHC, stated that the project reinforces the company’s commitment to President Tinubu’s agenda and aims to support Borno State’s goal of universal electricity access. She noted that two more distribution projects are expected in Borno before year’s end.
Abdulrahman Isa, Managing Director of Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), explained that the project will accommodate the university’s expansion and improve voltage and availability for the surrounding community, including a 500 housing unit estate.
Prof. Babagana Gutti, Vice Chancellor of the university, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, Vice-President Shettima, the Borno State Government, and the NDPHC for situating the project at the institution.
