Senate Approves N1.8 Trillion for 2025 FCT Statutory Appropriation Bill

Abuja: The Senate has approved N1.8 trillion for the 2025 Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Statutory Appropriation Bill. This decision was made after the presentation of the Committees on FCT’s report by Chairman Sen. Bomai Ibrahim (APC-Yobe) during a plenary session.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ibrahim detailed that the Senate and the House Committee on FCT convened with the minister and other FCT administration officials to discuss the appropriation bill. The budget breakdown includes a personnel cost of N106 billion, an overhead of N352 billion, with a total recurrent proposal of N502 billion, while capital expenditure was proposed at N1.3 trillion.

Ibrahim noted that the total personnel cost constitutes 8.29 percent of the budget, the total recurrent constitutes 27.69 percent, and the total capital makes up 72.31 percent. He further explained that within the capital allocation, 85 percent is earmarked for ongoing projects, leaving 50 percent for new projects.

He emphasized that the budget structure aligns with best practices, which typically advocate for a 70 percent allocation for capital and 30 percent for recurrent expenses. He commended the FCT budget for exceeding this standard with a 72.31 percent allocation for capital projects.

Sen. Barau Jibrin (APC-Kano) praised the FCTA leadership, highlighting their efforts in managing the FCT effectively. He urged the Senate to support the FCT minister and his team’s efforts in enhancing infrastructure development by approving the budget.

Subsequently, the Senate passed the 2025 FCTA Statutory Appropriation Bill.
