Petrosen CEO to Speak at African Energy Week 2025 as Senegal Advances Gas Development

Cape Town: Petrosen’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is scheduled to speak at the African Energy Week (AEW) 2025, marking a significant moment as Senegal progresses to the next stage of its gas development. This participation comes on the heels of several landmark achievements in Senegal’s energy sector, highlighting the nation’s growing influence in global gas and downstream development.

According to African Press Organization, Petrosen has played a crucial role in the successful initiation of gas production at the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project. This project, a joint venture between Senegal and Mauritania, was launched with the collaboration of major players such as bp, Kosmos Energy, and Mauritania’s NOC Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures. The GTA project began operations on December 31, 2024, with gas being channeled from deepwater reservoirs through subsea infrastructure to a floating LNG hub, establishing West Africa’s presence in the global LNG supply chain with an initial capacity of 2.5 million tons per annum.

AEW: Invest in African Energies is regarded as the premier platform for project operators, financiers, technology providers, and government representatives to sign deals and exchange ideas in the African energy sector. For more information on the event, visit http://www.AECWeek.com.

In the downstream sector, Petrosen recently completed feasibility studies for the Senegal Fertilizer Company, a gas-fed urea plant designed to enhance Senegal’s agricultural value chain and export competitiveness. With an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons, the plant will use domestic gas and phosphate to produce urea and NPK compound fertilizers for regional and global markets, including Europe, the U.S., and Brazil.

Senegal stands at a pivotal point in its energy development, as it pursues large-scale oil and gas projects, solidifying its position as one of Africa’s leading energy investment destinations. Petrosen’s leadership in projects such as GTA, Yakaar-Teranga, and Sangomar is sending a clear message to global investors: Senegal is open for business, financially stable, and dedicated to creating long-term value in the energy value chain, states Tomás Gerbasio, Vice President of Commercial and Strategic Engagement at the African Energy Chamber.
