Abuja: Sen. Ned Nwoko (APC-Delta) has pledged N200 million towards a talent hunt initiative aimed at discovering and nurturing young Nigerian artists. Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District and husband to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, made the announcement at the Actors Guild Office Opening and inauguration of its multi-purpose Super App in Abuja. The lawmaker, who is the Chairman, Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Board of Patrons, emphasized the need for the Nigerian movie industry to invest in more quality TV series.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Nwoko noted that countries like the UK, America, and Australia have iconic series that have lasted for decades due to their representation. He remarked on the potential for a well-produced series to serve generations. To support this vision and talent discovery, Nwoko committed N200 million for young creatives to utilize in building something remarkable.
Nwoko, who chaired the event, also announced his sponsorship of a bill for an Act to establish the Actors Guild of Nigeria as a professional body, aligning it with organizations like the NBA, NMA, and NUT. Highlighting the significance of Asaba as the home of Nollywood, he expressed pride in the global recognition of Nigerian talent and the need for additional support to improve production quality to match international standards.
