NLC Urges Governor Fintiri to Implement N70,000 Minimum Wage for Local Government Workers

Yola: The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has made a formal appeal to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, urging him to implement a N70,000 minimum wage for local government workers across the state. This appeal was prominently voiced by Mr. Emmanuel Fashe, the NLC Chairman in Adamawa, during the May Day celebration held on Thursday.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Fashe also called upon the state government to release the promotion results for staff of the Post Primary Education Board, emphasizing that such measures would significantly enhance service delivery efficiency. In addition, Fashe criticized the recent hike in electricity tariffs, pointing out that many residents were being charged for services they have not received on a regular basis.

In response, Governor Fintiri, represented at the event by his Deputy, Prof. Kaletafwa Farauta, lauded the NLC’s leadership in Adamawa for their diligent efforts in advocating for workers’ welfare. He highlighted that the state government had engaged with stakeholders to discuss the implementation of the proposed minimum wage. Fintiri reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring the prompt payment of workers’ salaries.

Moreover, Governor Fintiri announced plans to employ approximately 4,000 workers in Adamawa, reaffirming the administration’s dedication to improving workers’ welfare in the state.
