Kabir and Surveyors Launch World Geospatial Information Hub in Deqing

Deqing: Ambassador Mohammed Kabir, former Registrar of the Surveyors Council of Nigeria, collaborated with his international peers to inaugurate the World Geospatial Information Home (WGIH) in Deqing, China. This significant event marks a milestone in global geospatial collaboration, aiming to enhance cooperation and partnerships in the geospatial industry.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the inauguration of the WGIH was conducted under the auspices of the United Nations Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre (UNGGKIC). The purpose of the Home is to foster universal research, innovation, and the dissemination of geospatial information to benefit the global community. Simultaneously, the International Volunteer Service Federation for Global Geospatial Information Management (GGIM) was also launched to support the WGIH’s objectives.

The event, jointly organized by the Geospatial Industry Development Centre of Huzhou Moganshan High-Tech zone and the Deqing Association for Geospatial Information Professionals, saw participation from over 60 experts in surveying, mapping, and geospatial information. Representatives from countries including Nigeria, China, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, the UK, Germany, Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, and Bolivia attended the event.

Keynote addresses were delivered by Prof. Guefei Jing, Deputy Director of the Regional Centre of Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific, and Malam Kabir, the Chairperson of the International Federation of Surveyors-Africa Regional Network and Ambassador of African Union Agenda 2063. Dr. Nicholas Hamm, Associate Professor of Geospatial Data Science at the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China, also contributed with a keynote address. The speeches emphasized cross-regional cooperation in spatio-temporal biodata, AU agenda 2063, China-Africa geospatial information cooperation, and spatial data science education.

The statement encouraged professionals in the surveying sector to join the International Volunteer Service to contribute to global peace and prosperity through GGIM.
