FRSC Mobilizes Efforts to Clear Gridlock on Giri-Gwagwalada Road

Abuja: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has initiated efforts to clear the gridlock caused by protesting truck drivers along the Giri-Gwagwalada Road. The disruption, which began on Wednesday, has seen significant intervention efforts by the FRSC to restore normalcy.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, FRSC Sector Commander, FCT Command, Mr. Felix Theman, confirmed that an alternative lane has been created to ease the congestion. Smaller vehicles and buses are currently allowed to use this lane as a temporary measure while the situation is being fully addressed.

The gridlock was attributed to an incident involving protesting truck drivers who blocked the highway with their vehicles. The protest, which began on Wednesday, extended into Thursday, causing significant traffic disturbances. Theman noted that FRSC personnel, alongside other security agencies, were mobilized from Gwagwalada, Zuba, and Giri to manage the situation and persuade the protesting drivers to clear the road.

After substantial persuasion efforts, the trucks were removed late Wednesday night, but the delay had already led to severe traffic congestion the following morning. Compounding the issue, two trucks broke down on the same road after it was reopened.

Theman emphasized the importance of patience and cooperation from road users to help resolve the situation swiftly. He explained that the protest was sparked by an altercation involving one truck owner, which led to a collective protest without a clear understanding of the issue among the drivers.

The FRSC, along with other security services, remains active on the ground to ensure the road is accessible to the public and to prevent the incident from prolonging. Theman assured the public that such actions are illegal and create unnecessary hardship for travelers, urging all parties involved to maintain restraint and patience.
