FG Initiates Standardised National Website Implementation

Abuja: The Federal Government has commenced the process of implementing standardised national websites for public institutions through the Ministry of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy. The initiative was unveiled during the April Edition of the DevsInGov event held in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Ministry has organised co-create groups tasked with recommending key features for these websites. The proposed features will be subject to approval by relevant stakeholders. Kashifu Abdullahi, Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), emphasized the need for collaboration among stakeholders within the public sector to advance this initiative.

Nafisa Isah, Special Adviser Digital Transformation of the Ministry, who initiated the co-create project, explained that the goal is to build trust in government digital transactions. She stated that the Nigerian Web Design Standards Project aims to establish standardised design principles, frameworks, and guidelines for all Nigerian government websites, ensuring accessibility and enhanced user experience.

Mr. Saliu AbdulKareem, representing the Director-General of NITDA, highlighted that the websites would feature Nigerian colors, the ministry’s logo, and the coat of arms. He noted that the standardisation effort would adopt a bottom-up approach, extending beyond the executive level.

AbdulKareem added that the uniformity and conformity of these websites would help users identify genuine Nigerian government websites, thereby reinforcing their authenticity.
