Abuja: The Federal Government on Thursday in Abuja inaugurated the Inter-Ministerial Committee for the 2025 Democracy Day Celebration, tasking the committee with organizing a memorable event.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Sen. George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, noted that the celebration would offer an opportunity to honor Nigeria’s founding fathers and democratic heroes. Akume, represented by Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions and sacrifices of these individuals in Nigeria’s democratic history.
The celebration also serves as a platform for the Federal Government to highlight its achievements and present its performance scorecard to the citizens. Akume encouraged the committee to work collaboratively towards achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Planned activities for the 2025 Democracy Day include a World Press Briefing and Special Juma’at Service on Friday, June 6; a Church Service on Sunday, June 8 at the National Christian Centre; a Youth Programme on Tuesday, June 9; a Public Lecture on Wednesday, June 11; and a Presidential Broadcast and Parade on Thursday, June 12.
The committee, chaired by Akume, includes several key ministers and officials such as Wale Edun, Minister of Finance; Mohammed Malagi, Minister of Information; and Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, among others.
The committee’s terms of reference include planning and executing all approved Democracy Day activities, co-opting relevant individuals or organizations, documenting activities for posterity, and undertaking any other assignments related to the successful implementation of the celebration.
