CDS Commits to Eradicating Banditry in Nigeria

Yelwata: The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has vowed to end banditry in Nigeria. Musa made this commitment during a visit to Yelwata town, Guma Local Government Area of Benue, following deadly coordinated attacks that took place on Friday night.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the CDS assured that the Nigerian Armed Forces would be relentless in ensuring that such attacks are not repeated. He affirmed that the forces would pursue the attackers and neutralize them, pledging that the Yelwata attack would be their last act. Musa acknowledged the presence of compromised officers who had leaked information but emphasized that such individuals were no longer part of the service. He highlighted that the bandits had specific targets, suggesting insider assistance in their operations.

Gen. Musa stated his intention to meet with commanders to revise strategies and address internal issues. He stressed the importance of unity, mentioning discussions with community leaders, traditional rulers, and clergy members to build trust and cooperation. He also announced plans for increased deployments and a visit to Nasarawa on Tuesday.

During his visit, Musa expressed condolences to the Benue Government, Governor Hyacinth Alia, and victims of banditry, particularly those in Yelwata. He encouraged them to remain resilient, assuring them that hope is on the horizon.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the CDS held a closed meeting with community leaders and stakeholders in Yelwata. He also surveyed the crime scene and provided financial assistance to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
