Abuja: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s administration prioritizes the welfare of Nigerians over political affiliations. He made these remarks while inaugurating the five-kilometre dualised Kuje township road, stretching from Tipper Garage Junction to LEA Secretariat in the Kuje Area Council of Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike highlighted that the implementation of various projects across the six area councils aligns with Tinubu’s pre-election promises to Abuja residents. He expressed that the president is committed to fulfilling these promises by providing essential infrastructure to the community. Wike acknowledged the journey towards the desired development but reassured residents that progress will be achieved.
The minister also expressed his happiness over the positive reception from the Kuje residents, emphasizing that the ultimate goal of governance is to ensure the happiness of the people. Wike noted that the Tinubu-led government actively engages with citizens and responds to their needs, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to its renewed hope agenda.
Wike explained that the Kuje township road project was initiated following a request from the Gomo of Kuje, Jibrin Tanko, who also sought the completion of the Airport Road to Kuje. The project, initially awarded to Arab Contractors by the previous administration at over N59 billion, was reactivated by Tinubu’s government, with completion anticipated soon.
Furthermore, the FCT Administration has pledged to dualise the Kuje to Gwagwalada Road, with work already underway by Gilmor Engineering Ltd. Wike announced plans to extend the Airport Road to Kuje up to Pegi, emphasizing the administration’s responsiveness to residents’ demands. He mentioned that the extension would also continue from Pegi to Kwakwu, with plans to include it in the statutory budget presented to the National Assembly.
Wike highlighted an agreement with CGC, a Chinese company, to provide water to satellite towns, including Kuje Area Council. He noted that Tinubu has allocated N50 billion in the 2025 budget for this purpose, with Kuje set to benefit from improved water infrastructure.
Earlier, the Chairman of the council, Mr. Abdullahi Sabo, praised Wike for his investment in the development of area councils. He noted that Kuje is experiencing significant transformation due to the minister’s intervention. Sabo urged for the extension of the ongoing construction from Kuje to Kwaku, which he emphasized is crucial for connecting numerous villages to Abuja city and addressing security challenges.
Sabo also requested the connection of Kuje to the Lower Usuma Dam water supply to provide residents with clean water, as they currently rely heavily on boreholes.
