Tinubu Urges Adherence to Rule of Law for Peace in Rivers

Abuja: President Bola Tinubu emphasized the need for adherence to the rule of law in Rivers to ensure lasting peace and prosperity. He addressed representatives and leaders of the Niger Delta under the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) at the Presidential Villa.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Tinubu reiterated the importance of respecting the judiciary to uphold democracy and foster harmony. He urged leaders to be broadminded and selfless, focusing on salvaging the region politically and economically by respecting judiciary interpretations of the Constitution.

President Tinubu expressed gratitude for the support he received, acknowledging the responsibilities of his position. He committed to achieving the promises made and emphasized Nigeria’s potential for economic recalibration and growth.

The President highlighted the importance of the Niger Delta, describing it as the “goose that lays the golden egg,” and stressed the need for care to maintain its prosperity. He mentioned an agreement reached to address issues in Rivers, urging stakeholders to recognize the Constitution for progress.

Tinubu affirmed his confidence in the judiciary, emphasizing the rule of law’s significance in governance. He called for the implementation of court rulings and encouraged PANDEF leaders to promote peace and stability in Rivers.

The President’s priority remains community development with projects benefiting citizens. He urged the delegation to take charge of peace and assured support when needed, emphasizing that the people of Rivers will not suffer due to democratic challenges.

Tinubu commended the Niger Delta leadership and acknowledged the efforts to stimulate sustainable economic growth, highlighting ongoing projects like the coastal road and partnerships with international companies to build ports.

King Alfred Diete-Spiff and Obong Victor Attah, representing PANDEF, expressed gratitude for the President’s commitment to the South-South region. Attah, chairing the reconciliation committee in Rivers, stressed the national stability threatened by political crises and called for further intervention.

The PANDEF delegation included former governors, legislators, ministers, traditional leaders, and representatives from various community groups.
