Tinubu Lauds Accomplishments of Nigerians in Diaspora

Abuja: President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday in Abuja, highlighted the positive impact of Nigerians living abroad, emphasizing their role in inspiring the younger generation and enhancing the nation’s image. The President made these remarks while receiving Letters of Credence from various foreign envoys at the State House.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the President received Mr. Pasquale Salvaggio, the High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria, who noted the active participation of Nigerians in various fields such as education, sports, science, health, and business in Canada. Salvaggio emphasized the responsibility and civility demonstrated by Nigerians in pursuing their goals and highlighted Nigeria as a key partner, being Africa’s most populous country and Canada’s largest trading partner on the continent.

Salvaggio expressed Canada’s interest in expanding cooperation with Nigeria in sectors like oil and gas, ICT, and agriculture. President Tinubu expressed appreciation for the achievements of Nigerians abroad, considering them as a source of inspiration.

In a separate meeting with Dr. Julius Sandy, the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone, Tinubu reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to developing the West Coast and Africa. The Sierra Leonean envoy expressed gratitude for Nigeria’s longstanding support, noting the significant presence of Nigerians in business and education in Sierra Leone.

During a discussion with Legesse Haile, the Ambassador of Ethiopia, President Tinubu stressed the importance of pursuing peace and stability across Africa, citing insecurity as a major challenge. The Ethiopian Ambassador expressed a commitment to building on bilateral ties, particularly in cultural relations, which are already bolstered by the Ethiopian Airline.

Finally, while receiving Archbishop Michael Francis Crotty, the Apostolic Nuncio of the Vatican, President Tinubu commended the Catholic Church for its contributions to education and poverty alleviation in Nigeria. He expressed anticipation for further engagement with the Vatican’s leadership in the country.
