Riyadh: President Bola Tinubu, during an extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, urged for a cessation of Israeli aggression in Gaza, emphasizing that the prolonged conflict in Palestine has resulted in immense suffering. He highlighted the necessity for an immediate ceasefire and reiterated Nigeria’s support for a two-state solution, allowing Israelis and Palestinians to coexist peacefully and securely.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the summit was attended by leaders from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the League of Arab States, serving as a continuation of last year’s Riyadh summit. President Tinubu stressed the importance of addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and called for a global effort to end the longstanding conflict. He emphasized that self-defense should respect proportionality and civilian rights in accordance with international legal and diplomatic norms.

Highlighting Nigeria’s experiences, President Tinubu advocated for reconciliation through honest dialogue, stressing the international community’s role in fostering understanding. He also proposed the establishment of a secretariat to implement the summit’s resolutions and called for global support and oversight by select Heads of Government.
In his address, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman condemned Israeli actions in Gaza and Lebanon, including civilian targeting and violations of the Al-Aqsa mosque. He criticized the Israeli ban on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) from providing aid and the displacement of Lebanese citizens.
