Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has appointed six Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) for federal government-owned hospitals located in Akure, Gombe, Azare, Lafiya, Maiduguri, and Kafanchan. The appointments aim to strengthen leadership and improve healthcare services in these regions.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President’s spokesman, released the names of the newly appointed CMDs and their respective hospitals. Prof. Olusegun Ojo will lead the Federal Teaching Hospital in Akure, Ondo State. Previously, he was the pioneer CMD of Ondo State Specialist Hospital.
Prof. Yusuf Abdullahi has been reappointed as the CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe. His reappointment follows a successful first term, highlighting his leadership and contributions to the hospital’s growth. Dr. Dauda Katagum, previously the Acting CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital in Azare, Bauchi State, has been confirmed as the substantive CMD.
Dr. Ikrama Hassan, a consultant physician, is appointed as the CMD of the newly upgraded Federal Teaching Hospital in Lafiya, Nasarawa State. Hassan has previously served as the Medical Director of the Dalhatu Ibrahim Arab Specialist Hospital before its transition to a teaching hospital.
In Maiduguri, Borno, Dr. Ali Ramat, a Consultant Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon, is appointed as the CMD of the newly established National Orthopaedic Hospital. Additionally, Dr. Haruna Shehu, a Consultant Family Physician, has been appointed as the CMD of the newly established Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.
All appointments are set for a four-year term, effective from their respective dates of assumption of office. Abdullahi’s second and final term as CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, began on September 5, 2024. Meanwhile, Katagum’s tenure as CMD of the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Azare, Bauchi State, commenced on December 6, 2024.
President Tinubu congratulated the newly appointed and reappointed CMDs, urging them to maintain high standards of professionalism, accountability, and service delivery. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and ensuring quality medical services are accessible to all Nigerians.
