Yauri: Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi announced that his administration has successfully attracted over N330 billion in foreign investments, showcasing a strong commitment to developing tourism and cultural heritage within the state. This announcement was made during the 2025 Rigata Annual Cultural Festival held in Yauri Local Government Area. Idris highlighted the festival as not only a celebration but a testament to the rich history, vibrant culture, and unity of Kebbi’s people. It serves as a platform to exhibit traditional beauty, community strength, and resilience.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the festival plays a pivotal role in promoting tourism and economic growth in Kebbi, drawing visitors from across the globe. The governor emphasized the opportunities created for local businesses, artisans, and entrepreneurs as a result of these developments. His recent visit to China resulted in a significant agreement with reputable investors worth $200 million USD, equivalent to N330 billion.
On the security front, Gov. Idris noted a notable improvement in the Yauri area’s security situation, allowing farmers to return to their lands. In the 15 months of his administration, substantial infrastructural projects have been completed, including road reconstruction, mega school construction, palace rehabilitation, solar streetlight installation, mosque renovations, and free agricultural inputs.
Earlier, Dr Yusuf Sununu, the Chairman of the occasion and Minister for State, Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, aligned the festival with President Bola Tinubu’s policy to leverage cultural diversity for economic enhancement. Sununu recognized Rigata as a cultural heritage that has gained international acclaim, symbolizing the restored peace in Kebbi.
Sununu provided a historical perspective on the festival, which began 200 years ago involving riverine maneuvers, water sports, and entertainment. Originally a display of naval prowess by the Gungu people, it evolved into a prestigious event following colonial intervention and a visit by the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
The Chairman of the National Organising Committee, Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, described the festival as a milestone celebrating cultural heritage and a testament to tradition preservation. He commended the security improvements that have allowed farmers to resume their activities.
The Emir of Yauri, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to Gov. Idris for his continuous support and infrastructural contributions to the emirate. The event was graced by numerous dignitaries, including Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Sen. Atiku Bagudu, former Gov. Sa’idu Dakingari, and several senators.
