Kano: The Saudi Arabia Consulate, in collaboration with the Kano State Government, has inaugurated the distribution of dates donated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the state. This initiative is part of a broader effort to provide support during Ramadan.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, speaking at the event in Kano, highlighted the significance of this gesture in the ongoing humanitarian efforts to support the people of Kano, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. The governor expressed gratitude towards King Salman bin Abdulaziz and his cabinet for their continued support to the region. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Faruk Ibrahim, the governor emphasized that this initiative reflects the strong relationship between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria.
Earlier, the Consulate General of the Kingdom in Kano, Khalil Ahmed Admawy, explained that the initiative, facilitated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), aims to support vulnerable families across Nigeria and strengthen the deep-rooted ties between the two nations. He thanked King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their unwavering commitment to providing aid to Muslims and underserved communities globally.
Admawy further noted that this year’s distribution includes tonnes of dates for Abuja, which took place in February, and another 50 tonnes designated for Kano and several northern states. The consulate general reiterated Saudi Arabia’s dedication to fostering Islamic solidarity and providing relief to those in need.
The state Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Adamu Aliyu, also praised Saudi Arabia for its generous gesture and assured that the support would be distributed judiciously among the populace.
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), in collaboration with 175 members of the United Nations, has delivered more than 2,500 projects valued at $7 billion, benefiting 91 countries. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that date fruit is highly recommended in Islam for breaking the Ramadan fast.
