Osogbo: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has achieved a complete victory by securing all 30 chairmanship and 332 councillorship seats in the local government election conducted in Osun. Mr Hashim Abioye, Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), made the announcement on the state-owned television, Osun Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Abioye revealed that 18 political parties had participated in the election. He declared that the election was conducted successfully, adhering to constitutional provisions, existing laws, regulations, and guidelines. The election aimed to fill vacancies across 332 wards and 30 local government areas within the state.
Abioye further confirmed that the PDP candidates emerged victorious in all 332 wards based on the results submitted to the commission. He declared each candidate as duly elected chairmen and councillors of their respective areas. Certified true copies of the results are available for interested parties. The PDP candidates also won all the seats in the 30 local government areas of Osun State.
Abioye also addressed the media, apologizing for the commission’s oversight in failing to provide accreditation tags for election coverage, attributing the issue to security agencies sealing the commission’s office where the materials were stored.
The News Agency of Nigeria also reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC), the main opposition party, had withdrawn from the election. The withdrawal was communicated in a letter dated February 17, signed by APC State Secretary, Alao Kamoru, and addressed to the Secretary of OSSIEC. The letter cited a Court of Appeal ruling on February 10 in Akure that reinstated its sacked officials as the reason for their non-participation.
