Parliament Speaker Calls for Joint Efforts for Well-Being of Communities.

Brasilia: The Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, on Tuesday called for collaborative efforts to create common policies aimed at supporting the population and generating wealth for community well-being. Speaking to the press before traveling to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, for the G20 parliamentary meeting, Carolina Cerqueira emphasized the initiatives of the government and the efforts of President João Lourenço, not only for Angola but also for the peace process in the southern region.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Angolan parliament leader intends to leverage the meeting to position the Angolan parliament on major regional and global issues. Cerqueira highlighted the importance of raising awareness about climate change and tackling the impacts of energy, environmental, and political crises exacerbated by armed conflicts. She stressed that sustainable peace and development depend on fostering international cooperation, fraternity, and harmony among peoples.

The event will
also feature UIP President Túlia Aksha and other key figures discussing an agenda focusing on how parliamentarians can mitigate the effects of climate change, social instability, and political unrest. The summit, themed ‘Parliaments for a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,’ aims to foster debates on combating hunger, poverty, and inequality, as well as promoting socio-environmental development and a just ecological transition.

Parliamentarians are expected to engage in reflections and dialogues on how legislative bodies can contribute to defining policies that ensure food and nutritional security for populations. Established in 2010, the P20 group, comprising parliaments from the world’s wealthiest nations, will debate proposals addressing global issues. The P20 seeks to guide governments through inter-parliamentary cooperation and information exchange.

The 10th Summit, a collaborative effort between the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies and the Brazilian Senate, is organized in partnership with the Inter-Par
liamentary Union. The G20, representing two-thirds of the world’s population, accounts for 85 percent of global GDP and 75 percent of international trade.
