Kaduna: The National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) has announced plans to establish study centres in all 774 local government areas across Nigeria. This initiative was revealed by the Director and Chief Executive, Prof. Sadiya Sani-Daura, during a special interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaduna, marking the two-year anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Sani-Daura emphasized that the study centres would be well-equipped and properly staffed to function effectively. “This move is part of our modest efforts to make NTI easily accessible by all Nigerians, no matter their places of domicile,” she stated. She further highlighted that the institute would build upon its existing state-of-the-art zonal and state centres to ensure the success of the planned local government area centres.
Sani-Daura reiterated the institute’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities of teachers nationwide. “Everybody can update and improve his or her capacity. We are out to ensure that all Nigerian teachers achieve this in no distant time,” she said. She stressed the necessity for Nigerian teachers to stay abreast of global trends in teaching and learning, urging them to catch up with new technologies and methodologies.
In her quest to transform NTI into a world-class teacher training institution, Sani-Daura revealed initiatives such as awarding Degrees, Post-Graduate Diplomas, and Advanced Diplomas in Education. This is being done in collaboration with several universities, including Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, University of Maiduguri, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
“Education is very critical to providing plausible solutions to practically all the seemingly formidable problems plaguing Nigeria,” Sani-Daura noted. She asserted that with adequate attention to the education sector, solutions to various national issues, including crime, could be effectively addressed.
