Kaduna: Prof. Sadiya Sani-Daura, the Director and Chief Executive of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, has expressed her commendation for President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in restructuring the educational sector in Nigeria. Under the Tinubu administration, a series of initiatives have been introduced to enhance professionalism in teacher training as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Sani-Daura highlighted in an interview at the NTI headquarters in Kaduna that the institute has experienced significant progress with the backing of the Federal Ministry of Education, contributing positively to the educational landscape in the country. She emphasized the active involvement of the Minister and State Minister for Education, who are committed to ensuring excellence in this sector.

Sani-Daura noted that her role as the Director and Chief Executive of NTI is to contribute to the development of education, which she believes is crucial in addressing many national challenges. The NTI is working closely with the Federal Ministry of Education to achieve its goals and is being supported in its efforts to fulfill its mandate.

She further explained that NTI is establishing study centers in all 774 local government areas across the federation, aiming to improve accessibility and coordination. Looking ahead, Sani-Daura envisions NTI becoming a leading institution in teacher training both nationally and globally within the next five to ten years.

NTI aims to regulate teacher training standards across both public and private sectors in Nigeria. The institute, as mandated by its Act, is responsible for training teachers at all levels, from primary to tertiary education. Sani-Daura pointed out that NTI has the potential to extend its training services to underserved communities by leveraging technology.

The establishment of an ICT department and alignment of the institute’s organogram with global standards in teacher education are part of NTI’s strategic plans. Sani-Daura concluded that NTI is poised to enhance teacher capacity and contribute to the development of effective curricula, in line with the growing population and corresponding educational demands.
