Lagos: The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Lagos Branch, has urged young engineers to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a critical skillset. The Chairman of NSE, Lagos Branch, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, imparted this advice during the graduateship induction ceremony organized for young engineers by the branch in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering, University of Lagos.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event, themed ‘AI Revolution in Engineering Entrepreneurship and Nation Building,’ emphasized the importance of AI despite its potential risks, such as the displacement of human workers. Kesha noted that AI is an unstoppable force, advising engineers to adopt and adapt to its advancements.
Mr. Dideolu Falobi, Managing Director of Krestal Laurel, supported Kesha’s perspective by stressing the necessity for engineers to understand AI principles and applications. Mrs. Margaret Oguntala, the President of NSE, represented by Mr. Ayo Ogunaike, expressed her aspiration for the inductees to become full corporate members of the NSE within four years. She underscored the benefits of NSE membership and announced the upcoming annual general meeting in Ibadan. The NSE boasts a strong presence with five branches in Lagos and 86 branches worldwide.
The News Agency of Nigeria further reported that 504 graduates from various engineering disciplines were inducted into the NSE during the ceremony. The event included a procession by the inductees from the UNILAG Faculty of Engineering to the Oyebolu Engineering Resource Centre, where they took their induction oath.
