Kaduna: Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have neutralised over 50 Boko Haram members during a cross-fire at Farin-Kasa Area, Chukun LGA in Kaduna. A statement by the NSCDC Spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, confirmed that the incident took place on Tuesday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, a special monitoring squad comprising 80 officers and personnel was deployed to survey and monitor the recently vandalised national grid installation in the Shiroro area of Niger state. The operatives, drawn from the Commandant General Special Intelligence Squad (CG SIS), were sent to assess the damage, conduct surveillance activities, and potentially apprehend the perpetrators.
The team came under attack while crossing from the Shiroro axis after completing their surveillance and monitoring duties. From a hill located at Farin-Kasa, the group of insurgents opened fire upon sighting the NSCDC convoy, using sophisticated weapons. Despite the ambush, the NSCDC operatives successfully repel
led the attack and neutralised over 50 of the insurgents in the ensuing crossfire.
At the time of reporting, about seven operatives of the corps were missing, and efforts were underway to locate them in the surrounding bush areas. Some members of the team sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment in a facility.
NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, awaits a complete briefing from the field officers. He described the attack as callous and unfortunate, emphasizing the repeated attacks on security operatives committed to defending the country. Audi commended the courage of the operatives and assured that the corps would not forget their dedication to duty.
The NSCDC, as the lead agency in protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), remains undeterred in its mission to ensure the revival of the power sector for stable electricity supply nationwide.
