Nasarawa Government Partners with Federal Mortgage Bank for Civil Servant Housing Initiative.

Abuja: The Nasarawa Government and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) have agreed on a partnership to deliver affordable homes for civil servants in the state. Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, announced this collaboration during a visit to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FMBN, Shehu Osidi, in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the government aims to support civil servants by providing them with affordable housing options. Dr. Akabe highlighted that the state has implemented an owner-occupier policy, allowing civil servants living in government houses to eventually own them. The government is seeking ways for FMBN to assist civil servants in obtaining houses through its loan products, including mortgage facilities, for the 141 houses available.

Responding to this initiative, Osidi expressed the bank’s willingness to provide mortgage services to civil servants. He mentioned that the bank plans to offer assistance through its national housing fund an
d rent-to-own housing scheme. Additionally, there are federal government houses in the state that have not been allocated, and FMBN is considering an arrangement with the state government to allocate these houses to more civil servants, potentially increasing the number of homeowners.

Osidi also noted that FMBN has been in partnership with Nasarawa State, supporting various projects under Governor Abdullahi Sule’s leadership. Through the National Housing Fund scheme, FMBN has disbursed housing loans and advanced funds for home renovation to numerous beneficiaries in the state. The bank is committed to providing mortgage finance for completed housing units in the Nasarawa Technology Village and has financed multiple housing projects, delivering over 600 housing units through the Cooperative Housing Development Loan.
