Minister reiterates concession regime in forestry sector

The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, António de Assis, defended the need to be guided by the concession regime, instead of licenses, with a view to reducing crimes of illegal logging in the country.

Speaking at the 17th edition of Café CIPRA, held on Wednesday in Luanda, the government official stressed that this regime allows for the control of hectares that are often exploited, as well as encouraging replanting in the aforementioned areas.

According to the minister, this modality requires that the person who intends to explore presents a detailed plan of their intention.

He also said that it allows the bilateral signing of a commitment that details the number of hectares to be explored.

To materialize this goal, the head of the Agriculture and Forestry sector said that he will work with the provincial governments.

On the other hand, António de Assis highlighted that the lack of compliance with procedures by citizens has contributed to the increase in illegal logging in the country.

The 17th edit
ion of Café CIPRA was attended by the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmem do Sacramento Neto, and the Secretaries of State for the Environment, Yuri Valter de Sousa Santos, and for Mineral Resources, JSnio da Rosa Correia Victor.

The CIPRA Café will be broadcast live on the official Facebook and YouTube pages of CIPRA and the Government of Angola, to allow Internet users to participate in this space for dialogue between government officials and representatives of civil society. AMC/OHA
