Ikeja: The Nigerian Publishers Association (NPA) has elected Mr Lukman Dauda, the Managing Director of Evans Publishers Limited, as its president at the recently concluded Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Ikeja, Lagos. Dauda emerged victorious in a closely contested election against Mr Sunday Obiyinka, the Chairman of Extension Publishers, which was deemed free and fair.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, four principal officers were also elected to various executive positions during the AGM. Mr Seinde Ogunniyi, Managing Director of Spectrum Books Limited, was elected as Vice President, and Alhaji Isiaq Ajibola, former Managing Director of DailyTrust and Chairman of Hapicom Publishers, assumed the role of Deputy President (North). Other elected officials include Mr Jesse Odu, Chairman of Alliance Publications Limited, as Deputy President (East), and Mr Olakunle Sogbehin, Chairman of Quantum Educational Books, as Deputy President (West).
In his acceptance speech, Dauda expressed gratitude to all member
s for the orderly conduct of the election, noting that it had sparked significant pre-election interest. He urged all members to collaborate with the newly elected executive team to elevate the association’s standing and achievements.
Dauda also praised Obiyinka for his graciousness in congratulating him post-election. Earlier in the event, Dr John Asein, Director General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, highlighted the impact of artificial intelligence on the future of content creation, delivery, and copyright management.
Additionally, the meeting saw the conferment of Fellowship awards from the Nigeria Institute of Publishing to past presidents and members who have significantly contributed to the association in various capacities.
