Birnin Kebbi: The Kebbi Government has enrolled 100 women with disabilities into the State Contributory Health Management Agency (KECHEMA).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr. Suwaiba Jadadi from KECHEMA highlighted that the program aims to facilitate easy access to healthcare for persons with disabilities. She spoke during a Mental Health Awareness Outreach event, which also marked the enrolment of these women into KECHEMA.
The program, organized by the Network of Women with Disabilities (NWD) in collaboration with KECHEMA and NANAS Charity Foundation, seeks to address the healthcare needs of these individuals. Jadadi emphasized the impact of the initiative, noting that beneficiaries will receive free medical services ranging from consultations to surgeries without any cost involved.
Dr. Lai’atu Augustine-Bamaiyi, State Coordinator for NWD, stated that the outreach is designed to alleviate the challenges faced by people with disabilities. The program aims to provide support and ensure that individuals with disabilities can lead lives comparable to others. Augustine-Bamaiyi praised KECHEMA and partners for their support and encouraged people with disabilities to remain determined and pursue their goals.
Additionally, Augustine-Bamaiyi mentioned that the establishment of a new Commission for Persons with Disabilities by Gov. Nasir Idris promises to address complaints and improve inclusivity in the state.
Dr. Khadija Abdullahi from the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) underscored the importance of health awareness for persons with disabilities. She highlighted the comprehensive health checks being conducted, including eye examinations and the provision of necessary medications and glasses. Abdullahi also called for support from individuals and organizations to provide wheelchairs for those in need.
