Invest in Cape Verde, First Lady Urges Foreigners

Praia: The First Lady of Cape Verde, Mrs. Debora Carvalho, on Monday called on foreign investors to take advantage of the abundant investment opportunities offered by her country. Mrs. Carvalho made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Praia, the country’s capital.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Cape Verde has enormous potential for economic development that will position the country for higher levels of growth. Mrs. Carvalho emphasized that the numerous tourist attractions in the country’s tourism sector constitute about 25 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Mrs. Carvalho highlighted the country’s beautiful islands, oceans, and seas as significant opportunities, noting that each of the 10 islands offers unique realities with specific opportunities. She also pointed out that the country benefits from accessibility by sea and air, offering a potentially vibrant transport sector.

She further remarked on Cape Verde’s vibrant youth population, stating that 70 percent of the population is under 30 years old, which represents a significant potential for the nation’s development.

In addition, Mrs. Carvalho expressed her delight in the ECOWAS Small Business Coalition’s decision to hold a training for MSMEs in Cape Verde. She stated that this initiative provides an opportunity for West African small businesses to share experiences and policies, thereby promoting the country and complementing available opportunities.

Reflecting on International Women’s Day, celebrated annually in March, the First Lady described it as a month of reflection and celebration of achievements, while acknowledging ongoing challenges for women and girls.
