Ikorodu: The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has praised the traditional ruler of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi, for his decade-long impactful leadership. Hamzat expressed his commendation during a public lecture in Ikorodu, recognizing the monarch’s contributions to educational development.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the lecture was part of a series of events marking the 10th coronation anniversary of Oba Kabir Shotobi, which commenced on August 2 and is set to conclude on August 10. In celebration of this milestone, scholarships were awarded to 80 indigent students from tertiary institutions, each receiving N250,000.
Speaking on behalf of the deputy governor, Dr. Nurudeen Agbaje, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Rural Development, highlighted the traditional ruler’s efforts in driving key developmental projects and cultural preservation within the region. He specifically acknowledged the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Ltd, an initiative aimed at promoting peace and security.
Hamzat lauded Oba Shotobi’s unwavering dedication to the welfare of the Ikorodu Division’s residents, emphasizing the importance of education, youth empowerment, and community development as exhibited by the public lecture and scholarship awards. He urged the scholarship recipients to capitalize on the opportunity and serve as ambassadors of excellence within their community.
Additionally, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, encouraged traditional leaders, community members, and stakeholders to continue sharing insights and reaffirm their commitment to good governance principles.
