Calabar: Gov. Bassey Otu has disclosed that he would not judge past administrations in the state because his coming as governor was to build on the gains of the past. Otu made the assertion during the inauguration of the newly remodelled Governor’s Office.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the office, initially constructed in 1968 by the then military administrator of the state, Brig. Gen. U. J. Esuene, had undergone only minor renovations over the past 20 years and had fallen into disrepair. Gov. Otu emphasized that the building stands as a signpost for Cross River, stating he hopes to leave a legacy for future administrations after his tenure.

The governor highlighted that despite limited financial resources, the project was completed successfully. He noted the importance of the renovation in creating a modern, smart office that meets 21st-century standards. Otu also stressed that the newly remodelled office was for service, with an expectation for occupants to work diligently.

Mr. Emmanuel Ironbar, Chief of Staff to the Governor, remarked on the significance of the office’s renovation after standing for about 58 years. He pointed out that the inauguration coincided with a day of double celebration, showcasing the governor’s achievements across various sectors.

Mr. Edem Bassey, Special Adviser to the Governor on Governor’s Office, mentioned that upon taking office, the governor found the previous office conditions inadequate. Renovating the office, he stated, was a morale booster for residents of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria also reports that Gov. Otu used the occasion to inaugurate the remodelled Office of the Wife of the Governor, marking two years of his administration.
