Finance Minister Reaffirms FG’s Commitment to Economic Stability

Abuja: Mr. Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to stabilising the nation’s economy. He stated that manufacturing exports will become more competitive with global counterparts.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Edun made these remarks at the State House, Abuja, after meeting with the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu. The meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Afreximbank, scheduled for June 24 to June 27. Edun emphasised Nigeria’s strong partnership with Afreximbank and its commitment to fostering trade and economic growth for Africa and beyond.

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that the Federal Government and Afreximbank had signed the Host Country Agreement for the 32nd Afreximbank Annual Meetings. The AGM, themed ‘Building the Future on Decades of Resilience,’ is set to take place in Abuja in June. The Afreximbank annual meetings are highly anticipated events on the African continent, featuring high-level policy discussions, presentations, and side events on issues crucial to Africa’s socio-economic development.

Edun noted that the purpose of the meeting was to seek the support of Mrs. Tinubu, as Nigeria would host dignitaries and spouses of heads of state. He mentioned that the upcoming Afreximbank meeting is expected to be the largest in the bank’s history, with thousands of delegates, including 37 heads of state, bankers, government officials, and industry leaders.

The minister reiterated Nigeria’s strong partnership with Afreximbank and its dedication to promoting trade and economic growth for the country and the continent. He highlighted recent economic improvements, such as stabilising inflation, declining food and petroleum prices, and efforts to reduce the cost of living.

Edun expressed confidence that policies would continue to stabilise the economy and support indigenous manufacturers in competing globally. He noted that Nigerian manufactured exports, whether in pharmaceuticals, health products, beauty products, textiles, or agriculture, would become more competitive in West Africa and beyond.

The First Lady commended the minister and his team for their efforts to stabilise the economy. She expressed gratitude for the quality of leadership in the current administration and pledged her support for the forthcoming Afreximbank AGM.
