FG to Complete Kano-Maradi 284km Rail Project by 2026: Tinubu

Katsina: President Bola Tinubu announced that the Federal Government is committed to completing the 284-kilometre Kano-Jigawa-Katsina-Maradi Rail Project by 2026. This announcement was made during the inauguration of the Katsina State Agricultural Mechanisation Centre and a 24-kilometre Eastern Bypass, both initiatives established by the state government.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, President Tinubu emphasized the significance of the rail project, highlighting that its completion would facilitate the transportation of people and goods, thereby reducing the burden on the nation’s roads. Moreover, he disclosed that the government has awarded contracts for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Marabar Kankara-Dutsinma-Katsina Road and the Zaria-Hunkuyi-Dabai-Kafur-Malumfashi-Dayi-Gidan Mutumdaya Road. Tinubu assured the public of the government’s determination to complete these road projects on time.

Additionally, President Tinubu reassured the residents of Katsina that the Federal Government is committed to completing the second phase of the Katsina-Kano Road. He noted that previous technical and bureaucratic hurdles have been resolved and that work is actively progressing.

The president praised Governor Dikko Radda for his efforts in advancing agricultural and infrastructural development within the state. In response, Governor Radda expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for supplying over 6,000 water pumping machines to support irrigation farmers. The state has also invested over N2 billion in acquiring 448,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer for the 2024 farming season. Furthermore, Radda announced the upcoming distribution of approximately 400,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer to farmers for 2025, alongside an increase in the number of extension workers from 72 to over 778.
