Abuja: The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has pledged ongoing support to the FCT College of Nursing Sciences in Gwagwalada, emphasizing its commitment to training skilled personnel for the health sector. Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, made this announcement during the matriculation ceremony of 246 newly admitted students.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr. Fasawe, represented by Mrs. Grace Musa, Director of Nursing Services at the FCT Health Management Board, affirmed the administration’s dedication to enhancing investment in the health sector under Nyesom Wike’s leadership. She encouraged the incoming students to work diligently in acquiring the skills necessary for contributing effectively to the health system.
The Provost of the college, Dr. Deborah Yusuf, acknowledged the matriculation as a significant step in the college’s mission to produce competent and caring nurses and midwives for the Federal Capital Territory and Nigeria. She outlined that of the 246 students, 123 were enrolled for the National Diploma in Nursing, and the other 123 for Basic Midwifery.
Dr. Yusuf commended the students for choosing a noble profession that requires compassion, intellect, integrity, and empathy. She urged them to maintain academic integrity, discipline, and teamwork. She also cautioned against plagiarism and negligence, underscoring that nursing is a vocation dedicated to serving humanity with diligence and compassion.
Dr. Yusuf appealed for the FCT Administration to include the college in its infrastructural development plans, highlighting its status as the only government-owned institution in the FCT focused on training nurses and midwives.
In addition, Mr. Jema Medan, Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, FCT Council, called on the National Assembly to expedite the process of legally establishing the college, which would provide it with the necessary legal framework.
