Kano: The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has inaugurated the 2025 Annual National Food Intervention Project valued at N16 billion, aiming to benefit one million Nigerians across the nation. The Chairman of the foundation, Mr. Aliko Dangote, made the announcement during the inaugural ceremony in Kano, represented by his daughter, Marya. The initiative is a response to the economic challenges currently facing the country.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the project involves the distribution of one million bags of 10kg rice to the poor and most vulnerable Nigerians across the 774 Local Government Areas. This effort aligns with the core values of the foundation, emphasizing compassion, solidarity, and shared responsibility. Collaboration with state governments is a key aspect to ensure the food reaches the most vulnerable individuals.
The foundation’s initiatives focus on improving living conditions in Nigeria by tackling hunger and water supply issues, enhancing health and education quality, and promoting economic empowerment at the community level. Mr. Dangote urged other industrialists and firms to assist in combating hunger through supportive programs and initiatives.
He emphasized the importance of complementing government efforts in fighting hunger and poverty through public-private partnerships. Commending the government’s ongoing efforts to address the food crisis, Dangote expressed confidence in overcoming these challenges with collective support.
In his remarks, Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf of Kano State highlighted the intervention as a testament to Dangote’s commitment to addressing poverty and hunger in Nigeria. Represented by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam-Gwarzo, he noted that the gesture would significantly alleviate hardship, especially during Ramadan.
The state government has established a committee, including security agencies, to ensure transparency in the distribution process. Zouera Youssoufou, the Managing Director of the foundation, reiterated Dangote’s dedication to societal contributions, including supporting government efforts against poverty and hunger.
Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen, Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah Board in Kano, praised the foundation for its initiative and encouraged others to follow Dangote’s example. The board is actively engaged to ensure the products reach the intended beneficiaries.
