Abuja: CISLAC has expressed commendation towards President Tinubu for his directive to release detained minors, as announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris. The President’s commitment to reuniting these minors with their families has been positively received by the organization.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, CISLAC welcomed the President’s decision in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Auwal Rafsanjani. The organization praised Tinubu’s willingness to investigate the circumstances leading to the arrests and hold responsible security personnel accountable. CISLAC has urged President Tinubu to extend this directive to other detained protesters, emphasizing the importance of fostering national unity and justice. This action is seen as a demonstration of a government that is open to addressing citizens’ grievances.
The center has called for major reforms in Nigeria’s criminal justice system, highlighting the need for comprehensive judicial reform to tac
kle corruption within the judiciary. It suggested that ensuring only judges with integrity serve on Nigerian benches could restore hope and stability in the country. A reformed judiciary is expected to strengthen the rule of law and democracy, while also increasing confidence among international investors who seek a transparent and fair justice system.
CISLAC pointed out that the current situation, where corrupt public officials and election riggers collaborate with some judges to undermine justice, poses a significant threat to the country. Additionally, the organization underscored the importance of police reform, particularly in recruitment and service deployment. Addressing police misconduct, including brutality and corruption, through merit-based and transparent recruitment processes, is seen as essential for building a responsible police force that serves and protects the public.
The organization also praised the directive that assigns the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to oversee the rehabilitation
and safe return of the minors to their families. According to CISLAC, this move reflects the President’s commitment to addressing humanitarian issues with compassion. Furthermore, CISLAC encouraged empowerment of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to actively engage Nigerians, provide civic education, and promote active citizenship. An informed and engaged citizenry is deemed crucial for national progress.
