Rio de janeiro: Ali M. Ali, Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), has highlighted the growing influence of the BRICS nations and their significant impact on global governance, economic development, and international relations during a presentation at the 7th BRICS Media Forum held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ali emphasized the substantial role BRICS nations play in the global economy and geopolitical landscapes. With nearly 40% of the world’s population and 25% of global GDP, BRICS is becoming a formidable force. The BRICS countries now contribute significantly to global manufacturing output and are major producers of wheat, rice, and soybeans. Ali noted that the group’s GDP has reached an impressive $63.2 trillion, surpassing the G7’s $52.3 trillion. Furthermore, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts a growing reliance on BRICS for global economic growth in the coming years, with China alone expected to contribute 22% of global growth.

Ali also mentioned the expansion of BRICS, with over 10 countries joining as partners and more than 30 expressing interest in joining the group. He cited Beijing-based international affairs commentator, Vox South, who attributes the growing influence of BRICS to its composite strength. Ali expressed that Nigeria is strategically positioned to join BRICS due to its prominent role in Africa and its interest in reshaping global governance, challenging Western-dominated institutions, and advocating for systemic reforms.

Ali outlined Nigeria’s partnership with BRICS, emphasizing three key pillars: shared goals and values, reducing dependence on the US-centric international system, and positioning Nigeria as an emerging global power. He linked this partnership with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which aims to reposition Nigeria as a prime global investment destination. Ali concluded by affirming the strong voice of BRICS and its vision for a prosperous Global South and a more equitable world.
