Abuja: The African Union (AU) has nominated Malam Mohammed Kabir, the immediate past Registrar of the Surveyors Council of Nigeria, as an Ambassador to promote the AU Agenda 2063. The nomination was communicated through a letter signed by Amb. Amara Thecla Orakwe, Chairperson of the Nomination and Screening Committee of the AU. The letter emphasized Kabir’s exceptional leadership qualities and diplomatic skills, highlighting his commitment to advancing the goals of the AU Agenda 2063.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the AU Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly is a significant diplomatic platform where individuals of influence are selected to represent Africa globally. As an appointed representative of Agenda 2063, Ambassadors advocate for policies and initiatives that support the Agenda’s objectives both within Africa and internationally. The letter noted that Ambassadors play a crucial role in addressing the continent’s challenges and harnessing opportunities through strategic frameworks.
The letter further stated that in his role as Ambassador, Kabir is expected to foster cross-border collaboration and drive economic growth, representing Africa’s interests on the world stage. Kabir’s extensive experience and expertise are seen as instrumental in achieving the visionary ideals of the AU Agenda 2063 Framework. Introduced in 2013, Agenda 2063 serves as Africa’s blueprint for economic and human development, emphasizing political unity and Pan Africanism.
The letter urged Kabir to begin logistical and administrative preparations for his induction into the Ambassadorial Assembly team. Kabir, who is a former Surveyor-General of Katsina State and Chairperson of the International Federation of Surveyors-Africa Regional Network, holds several esteemed positions in various land and surveying organizations. His involvement in geoinformatics and land administration, along with his leadership in policy development, has been pivotal in advancing land reforms and initiatives in Nigeria and beyond.
Kabir has also represented Africa in numerous international forums, including the United Nations and the African Union. His contributions to land policy and reforms in Nigeria, as well as his role in promoting land governance strategies across Africa, have been recognized globally.
