Luanda: Angola’s automated teller machine network (ATM) recorded a significant milestone this week, achieving more than 10.1 million transactions in a single day. This event marks the first instance of surpassing the seven-digit number in daily money withdrawals, highlighting a significant moment for the country’s electronic payment sector.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the Interbank Services Company (EMIS) reported this record, emphasizing the growing confidence among users of ATM services. This achievement underscores a substantial growth of about 20 times over the past decade, as in 2014, the daily record was nearly 500,000 transactions.
In October of this year, the total number of transactions reached 227 million, with the multibank channel ‘Multicaixa Express’ processing 123 million of these. Payment methods using mobile phones and QR codes also saw significant usage, with over 201,000 transactions, showcasing the potential of this innovative payment method.
