Asaba Specialist Hospital Aims for World-Class Standards Amid Allegations

Asaba: Dr. Peace Ighosewe, the Chief Medical Director of Asaba Specialist Hospital (ASH), has announced her commitment to transforming the hospital into a world-class health care facility despite recent allegations regarding missing medical equipment.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ighosewe addressed these allegations, which surfaced on social media, about missing medical equipment, including a laparoscopic machine. These reports were described as unsubstantiated, with Ighosewe attributing them to individuals threatened by the hospital’s achievements.

Ighosewe clarified that the only missing equipment was a laparoscopic machine that disappeared three years ago from a storage room filled with obsolete equipment. She explained that the room had been locked and left unused for over three months until efforts were made to repair it, leading to the discovery of the missing machine.

Throughout her five-year tenure, Ighosewe has faced various challenges, including resistance from certain staff members, but emphasized the progress made with state government support. She expressed willingness for any allegations to be reported to the Commissioner for Health or appropriate authorities, criticizing faceless accusations on social media.

Ighosewe also recounted reporting the missing machine to the police and the then Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mordi Ononye. Following an investigation, the authorities decided to let the matter rest, with records available at the police station.

Further investigations revealed that the Delta Police Command has exonerated Ighosewe, confirming no ongoing investigations against her or the hospital’s leadership. SP Bright Edafe, the police spokesperson, dismissed the social media allegations as fabricated, stating that no formal complaints had been filed.

The police emphasized the importance of formal procedures for lodging complaints, indicating no investigations would ensue based solely on internet rumors. Edafe reiterated that there are no active inquiries into Ighosewe or any missing equipment at the hospital.
